Chiropractic FAQ/info by Doctors Brandi and Josh Kuhn.
- Does getting an adjustment hurt?
Not typically. The adjustments are done so that you can move and feel better, we have the motto if it hurts don’t do it. Great care is taken to make sure your adjustments are pain free.
- Is chiropractic safe for kids?
Quite often the first injury a child will sustain is in the birth canal, or when they first learn to walk. Chiropractic is the most natural way to nurture and protect your childs nervous system some of our patients are less than a year old. Children don’t always receive the same type of adjustments as adults because their spines are more pliable.
- Do you have to keep going?
No, just because you have gone to a chiropractor for treatment of a condition does not mean you have to go for the rest fo your life. What people are often confused by is that you may have to go several times in order to treat a condition. Much like physical therapy, stretching or exercise it takes time for your body to become reconditioned and re-educated to function properly. Chiropractors guide the body to heal itself, healing time varies between patients due to health, diet and length of time with the condition.
- Do I need x-rays?
That can only truly be determined by the doctor. Most care can be rendered without the use of x-rays. X-rays are requested in less than 10% of people seen in our office and are due to clinical necessity.
- Can a chiropractor treat a lower back bulging, herniated disc or a pinched nerve?
Yes chiropractic is an excellent choice for pinched nerves, bulging or herniated disc pain. Adjustments help the disc stay hydrated, they also will draw the bulge back in towards the center of the spine. This has been proven in numerous studies and should be tried first for 4-6 weeks prior to surgery. If the disc is injured beyond repair the doctor will refer you to the appropriate neurologist or surgeon.
- Can a chiropractor help relieve migraines?
Yes, in many cases chiropractic care can help relieve and for some even eliminate chronic headaches. The important part is that they can diagnose the type of headache you are experiencing whether it be a true migraine or a tension headache. From there the appropriate treatment plan can be chosen for you whether it be muscle work, adjustments, dietary changes, herbs or a combination.
- Do chiropractiors only treat back pain?
No, chiorpractors are trained to diagnose and treat conditions not only affecting the spine but also the extremities (ankle, knee, wrist, shoulder, elbow and hip) as well as the jaw or TMJ. Other conditions may also be helped through chiropractic treatment such as headaches, PMS cramps and backaches, allergies, asthma, chronic sinus or ear problems, childhood ear infections, colic, digestive disorders, stress and a variety of other conditions.
- Why do people go to the chiropractor when they do not hurt?
Once you have experienced the benefits of chiropractic many people decide to continue their care for many different reasons. For some it is to prevent future problems or conditions from returning, some enjoy the way their body feels and how it can function, relieving stress and tension. Many athletes experience the benefit of a well tuned body experiencing increased performance enhancement, prevention of injuries and a quicker recovery time from injuries.
- Does insurance cover chiropractic appointments?
